Delray Beach agent charged in $5 million loan scheme

Real estate closing agent Howard Gaines, 57,
of Delray Beach, was charged with mortgage fraud in federal court for
allegedly using his position to help a con man, Anthony Dehaney, land more than $5
million in fraudulent loans. Gaines’ attorney, Stephen Binhak, said his client
knew nothing of the fraudulent deals taking place at his Fort Lauderdale agency, Your Title Choice.
Gaines’ employees signed off on the illegal transactions, then implicated him to avoid going to prison, Binhak alleged.
