Port commissioner in tenant tussle

Ed Oppel, an elected commissioner of the Port of Palm Beach, is doing double duty as chief operating officer of Empire
International Trading, a shipping logistics company that began renting
space in the port headquarters building in September. His fellow
commissioners George Mastics and port Chairwoman Jean Enright said they
hadn’t known the extent of their colleague’s ties with the company when
they approved the lease. Oppel said he hasn’t broken the law and
recused himself from the Aug. 20 vote on the lease.
