Briny Breezes, a mobile home village on the barrier island between Gulf
Stream and Ocean Ridge, is reasserting that it is no longer ripe for
redevelopment after a 2006 purchase deal. Briny Breezes put itself up
for sale in 2006 and got a $510 million offer from Ocean Land
Investments, based in Boca Raton. A mammoth resort of 900 condominiums,
300 timeshares and a 349-room hotel was to have replaced the 488 mobile
homes that have been a winter destination for generations of families.
The deal fell apart in 2007, and residents are still adjusting to the
end of their plans.
