New assessments for mortgage fraud properties

Miami-Dade County is taking a second look at homeowners whose property
assessments may have been unfairly elevated as part of incidents of
mortgage fraud. Appraisers and tax assessors must determine whether a
home that may have been used in a scheme has led to the overvaluing of
nearby properties for tax purposes. The Miami-Dade appraiser’s office
said it had received and
reviewed a list of 52 suspect homes from Miami-Dade, but had not
lowered assessments for any neighboring property owners.
