Florida Commissioner Kevin McCarty said the solvency of the smaller
insurers that are filling the gaps in homeowner policies isn’t a major concern
because of the state’s effective risk management policies. McCarty
said regulations that mandate conservative investment policies have
prevented smaller insurance companies from failing and have allowed them to
fill gaps created as larger insurers pull back from providing homeowner
coverage due to hurricane risk.
