Dixie Court, a housing project started in 1938, has been rededicated in a $40 million redevelopment project. Fort Lauderdale Housing Authority and community leaders recently commemorated the reincarnated $40 million Dixie Court apartments, which are about two-thirds complete. Construction went quickly on the first two phases: work started 11 months ago, and the 154 apartments and community building opened just before Thanksgiving. In the next few weeks, demolition crews will tear down the last of the original Dixie Court. By year’s end, the 254-apartment complex will be complete, said Tam English, executive director of the housing authority.
