Buckley Towers court battle continues

Residents of Buckley Towers in North Miami Beach say they are owed $18 million to repair damage caused in 2005 by Hurricane Wilma, and they are fighting QBE Insurance for the money in federal court. Insurance attorneys claim the condo is guilty of fraud — inflating its claim from $5 million just after Wilma to more than $17 million in April 2008. At issue is whether the 40-year-old building’s prior maintenance, or lack of maintenance, could have led to structural problems, or whether Wilma caused the damage.
