Broward trailer park and tribe in legal tussle

The Department of the Interior ruled that the Seminole Tribe made an illegal land grab when it seized a mobile home park in Broward County. The property, now called Seminole Park, has about 2,000 mostly elderly residents. The owners of the park leased the land from the tribe for decades before the tribe ousted park owner Hartman & Tyner in a lease dispute and successfully fought off a federal court challenge because it’s a sovereign nation. But in December, the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs ruled the Seminoles had acted illegally, and that Hartman & Tyner should regain control. The battle continues in a Fort Lauderdale court.
