Plantation officials are worried about several planned mixed-use projects in neighboring Sunrise, saying that the projects will increase traffic and demand for Plantation emergency services. These projects include Metropica and Westerra, which Sunrise plans to build at the intersection of Northwest 136 Avenue and Sunrise Boulevard, about a mile outside of Plantation. Metropica will have 2,500 condos, 300 townhouses and 1.2 million square feet of retail and office space. Westerra is slated to have 1,650 apartment units, 100 townhouses, 300 hotel rooms and 2 million square feet of retail, office and industrial space. Several other residential and office projects are also in the pipeline in Sunrise. The projects could bring an additional 20,000 residents to the area, said Bob Levy, a Plantation council member.
