U.S. Sugar Corp is negotiating with other potential buyers for the
land it had contracted in December to sell to the South Florida Water
Management District. The district offered $1.34 billion for the
180,000 acres, but under the terms of the contract, U.S. Sugar had
until today to look for a better offer. Because the Water Management
District still hasn’t secured financing for the land buy, U.S. Sugar
will continue negotiating with the other potential buyers to see if it gets a better offer for the land, said Senior Vice President Robert
Coker.
