Citizens coverage continues

Despite a spate of letters to homeowners saying that their Citizens Property Insurance windstorm coverage has been canceled, policyholders need not fear. The state-run insurer of last resort rewrote all its policies, and the wind-only ones needed to be revamped. There are changes: The company won’t insure any home whose replacement value is more than $750,000 unless it has shutters, and many homes will need roof inspections. Citizens, the largest insurer of homes and condos in Florida, won’t renew policies on homes with shingle, asphalt or tar and gravel roofs more than 25 years old. All other types of roofs, such as tile, have to be less than 50 years old.
