Florida real estate agent Ben Keskin has been arrested in New York for committing insurance fraud against the New York State Insurance Fund, the state’s largest workers’ compensation insurer. After a work-related injury in 1995, Keskin began receiving $400 per week in compensation benefits. It has since been revealed that Keskin was selling real estate in Celebration, Fl. in 2008 and 2009, and had been a licensed broker in the state since 2006, even though he continued to submit forms to NYSIF indicating that he was not employed. It is alleged that he defrauded NYSIF of $63,760. Keskin was arrested during an appearance at the Workers’ Compensation Board in Riverhead, Long Island earlier this month. [Insurance Journal]
