Public gaining entree to mansions

December 07, 2009 03:58PM

In a country plagued by a recession, a dearth of lending and high unemployment rates, mansions are swinging open their doors to the public allowing people to look at homes out of their price range. “Open houses are the new private showings at mega mansions,” NBC’s Miguel Almaguer said. Such open access would not have been available years ago, or even a year ago, said Barbara Corcoran, founder of the Corcoran Group. “You had to jump through the hoops,” she said,
to see a mansion, including being qualified and proving
you had the right pedigree.
