The U.S. House of Representatives has passed a new economic stimulus
bill that would give homeowners the chance for thousands of rebate
dollars for certain green home renovations. The Home Star bill is aimed at helping the construction industry.
“Cash for Caulkers,” as the bill has come to be termed, could mean
around 3 million households using the program over a 10-year
period, and supporters say it could create 168,000 new jobs, mostly in
construction. The renovations mainly involve changing home insulation
and putting in environmentally-friendly windows and doors. President
Obama is said to be backing the bill. [Sun Sentinel]
