Organizers are attempting to stir up interest in a little-known
sanctuary on Watson Island next to Jungle Island: the Ichimura
Miami-Japan Garden. Agnes Youngblood, executive director
and founder of the non-profit Friends of the Japanese Garden, said she
hoped a series of new events and rituals would help increase visitors to
the garden and awareness of Japanese culture. The garden was first
built on the site of the current Parrot Jungle in 1961, vandalized in
the 1980s and restored. Then, after being destroyed by Hurricane Andrew it
was built in 2006. [Miami
