The City of West Palm Beach has lost a $3 million hurricane relief grant for which it was
already approved, meaning more than three dozen homes will go without
hurricane repairs. The residents have been waiting for the grant — which
would go to repair damage from Hurricane Wilma — for six years, but the
grant was withdrawn after the city failed to meet federal funding
requirements, according to assistant county administrator Shannon
LaRocque. The city had already spent $750,000 of its own money to help
repair homes, anticipating reimbursement which now will not come. [Palm
