Miami Beach fire officials believe there’s an arsonist on the loose in the Collins Park area after three historic buildings were victims of mysterious blazes in one six-day period. The most recent fire was last night at the former Copley Terrace Apartments at 435 20th Street, across the street from the Miami Beach Convention Center, where the Miami International Boat Show is set to be held this weekend. Monday, the Collins Plaza Hotel at 318 20th Street went up in flames, and the Tyler Apartments at 420 21st Street burned Feb. 9. “Someone is doing this for the thrill of it,” said Eric Yuhr, the Miami Beach fire chief. “Two might be coincidental. But three? No.” [Miami Herald]
