State and federal authorities’ Operation Shield II – Fools Gold has
netted 16 people charged with defrauding the government by failing to
disclose either their true income or the criminal history of people in
their household in applying for or maintaining housing benefits. Five
additional culprits remain at large. Some face up to 20 years if found
guilty for their actions, which involved a total of $432,000 in obtained
federal housing benefits. Several federal agencies are involved in the
organization, which has been jointly run with the Palm Beach County
