The Tallahassee-based Florida Chamber of Commerce is opposing the
proposal to expand casino gambling in South Florida, a major portion of
Malaysian firm Genting’s resort project in downtown Miami. “We agree
with 90 percent of Genting’s proposal,” said Mark Wilson, the
organization’s president. “It’s the casino that we oppose.” Wilson said
the casino plan would hurt existing businesses, and limit the state’s
ability to diversify its economy. “We just don’t think we should sell
out Florida’s long term future for the opportunity to make a quick
buck.” [Miami
