Palm Beach County tax collectors target landlords for tourism levy

A number of those who own condominiums and vacation rental properties in Palm Beach County are not paying the county’s tax on “transient accommodations,” and could soon be getting visits from Palm Beach County tax collectors, the Palm Beach Post reported. “For me, it is a fairness issue,” said Tax Collector Anne Gannon, who said she intends to send collectors to such properties. “We believe [the tax] shouldn’t rest solely on the backs of the hotels and the bed and breakfasts.” According to Roger Amidon, executive director of the Palm Beach County Tourist Development Council, the number of those failing to pay the tax is in the “thousands.” [Palm Beach Post]
