The soon-to-be Patricia and Phillip Frost Museum of Science has completed its foundation and begun vertical construction, the South Florida Business Journal reported. It took 7,000 cubic yards of concrete to build the museum’s foundation — enough to pave a mile of Biscayne Boulevard. It is scheduled to open by 2015. To pay for construction the museum has already secured more than $70 million of its $100 million private fundraising goal. Miami-Dade County will provide an additional $165 million.
