Doral’s Deputy Mayor Bettina Rodríguez-Aguilera is being accused of property tax impropriety by Miami-Dade county officials, the Miami Herald reported.
“Our office found that the councilwoman had committed a violation,” county appraiser Carlos López-Cantera told the Herald. “This was determined through an investigation we did at the request of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.”
However, the amount in dispute is a mere $1,460, according to the county. Doral City Manager Joe Carollo said he felt the investigation was overreaching.
“This has to be the only case in which the FDLE has been involved in an investigation for tax exemption on a property,” he told the Herald. “If they want to go against Bettina, then they should do the same with a lot of other people.” [Miami Herald] –Guelda Voien
