Miami-Dade County is ready to begin talks with soccer veteran David Beckham’s investor team in securing a site for a new Major League Soccer stadium.
“We hope to send a strong message to MLS and Beckham’s group to bring them here,” Mayor Carlos Gimenez said at a meeting today.
Beckham’s group, known as Beckham Brand Limited, had been looking at the southwest section of the Biscayne Bay seaport PortMiami as well as other spots near Miami Beach and Downtown Miami.
Deputy Mayor Chip Iglesias and Mayor Carlos Gimenez have been in talks with New York-based development firm HR&A Advisors, which was tapped by Beckham’s group to find a suitable Miami location. [South Florida Business Journal] — Mark Maurer
