The proposed spring training facility in Palm Beach Gardens is generating fierce opposition, so the Major League Baseball teams that would be based there are now considering options outside of Florida.

Giles Kibbe, general counsel for the Houston Astros, has said the team and Toronto Blue Jays are not ruling out a relocation to Arizona, the Palm Beach Post reported. Palm Beach Gardens council members are scheduled to vote on the proposal for a spring training complex off Central Boulevard on Jan. 9. One member, Joe Russo, already said he would push for a vote against the plan because so many nearby residents are fighting it.

Kibbe said the teams would also be open to other Palm Beach County options. He noted any future site must produce enough revenue to cover the debt obtained to build the $110 million complex. [Palm Beach Post]Eric Kalis
