Beckham group scouts MLS stadium sites

Now that soccer legend David Beckham has officially announced his intentions to bring a Major League Soccer franchise to Miami, the hard part — finding a stadium location — can begin.

Beckham’s group of investors has scouted about 30 potential sites in Miami-Dade County, the Miami Herald reported. Of those, six have been brought up during negotiations with Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez and other county officials. Those talks are expected to continue today.

Possibilities include a 36-acre site at PortMiami that could accommodate a stadium and mega-yacht marina; three City of Miami-owned properties west of Marlins Park; 12 acres in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood and more than eight acres near Miami International Airport. [Miami Herald]Eric Kalis
