David Beckham’s investment group plans to unveil Major League Soccer stadium renderings today with hopes of building support for an open-air venue on PortMiami land.
Prominent Miami-based firm Arquitectonica and 360 Architecture of Kansas City worked together on the stadium renderings. The stadium is designed to take advantage of its proposed location on a portion of the port’s Dodge Island, according to the Miami Herald. Fans would have views of downtown Miami and Biscayne Bay from their seats.
Arquitectonica prepared a broader site plan connecting the stadium and a public plaza to downtown through a drawbridge that would be converted into a park. The public plaza would include retail, restaurant space and a nightclub.
The design rollout comes shortly after Royal Caribbean Cruises announced it opposes the stadium proposal because of traffic concerns and its own interest in developing the site. The company is headquartered at the port. [Miami Herald] — Eric Kalis
