Building that houses Prohibition eatery/speakeasy sold, but tenant will stay put

The Weekly Dish is a TRD recurring feature that showcases the latest in South Florida’s restaurant openings, leases and sales.

This week, the founder of Burger & Beer Joint released details about his latest concept, Hank & Harry’s, which will open at the beginning of 2016. TALDE Miami Beach, led by “Top Chef” alum Dale Talde, opened its doors. And restaurateur Stephen Starr will open a French eatery, Le Zoo, at Bal Harbour Shops on Monday. 

Hank & Harry’s | Miami Beach

New York-style deli Hank & Harry’s will open off of Lincoln Road next year in a 1,200-square-foot space. Miami restaurateur and founder of Burger & Beer Joint Buzzy Sklar told TRD earlier this week that he wants to bring the best of the Jewish and Italian delis of Brooklyn to Miami Beach.

The fast-casual eatery will offer counter service, takeout, delivery and catering. The menu will feature made-to-order corned beef and pastrami sandwiches, Brooklyn-style deli heroes, homemade soups, bagels, knishes, burgers, New York-style hot dogs, and salads.

The 10-year lease, at 1691 Michigan Avenue, includes two five-year options.

Prohibition Restaurant & Speakeasy | Midtown Miami

The 4,900-square-foot building housing the Midtown restaurant and bar sold for $3.25 million. Local developer Alexander Karakhanian, who recently purchased a property in the MiMo neighborhood, sold the 3,080-square-foot lot, according to listing agent Marcus & Millichap.

Prohibition Restaurant & Speakeasy, at 3404 North Miami Avenue, has three and a half years left on its lease, with a one-year option. It underwent a $2.5 million build-out in 2011, complete with a new roof.

TALDE | Miami Beach

TALDE Miami Beach, an Asian-American restaurant and bar, opened its doors at the oceanfront Thompson Miami Beach hotel last Friday. The restaurant, at 4041 Collins Avenue, is led by “Top Chef” alum Dale Talde and partners David Massoni and John Bush of the Three Kings Restaurant Group.

The restaurant’s menu will feature salads, dim sum, noodles, entrées and side dishes, offering a variety of market-driven ingredients and local Floridian products, according to a release. The space includes a 160-seat restaurant, a 40-person bar and lounge area and an outdoor terrace for 23 guests.

The Thompson Miami Beach launched last November. The hotel’s other restaurant is Seagrape, helmed by James Beard Foundation award-winning chef Michelle Bernstein.

Le Zoo | Bal Harbour

Philadelphia restaurateur Stephen Starr will open Le Zoo at Bal Harbour Shops on Monday. The French restaurant, at 9300 Collins Avenue, will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and will include items such as steak tartare and scallops nicoise.

Chef Craig Wallen will lead the kitchen, according to the SFBJ. Starr is known for restaurants Buddakan and Morimoto in New York City, and Makoto in South Florida. [SFBJ]

Mooyah Burgers, Fries & Shakes | Miami

The fast-casual burger chain opened its first Miami location on Thursday, at 13725 Southwest 152nd Street. Burgers can be customized by buns, meat, cheese, bacon and other toppings, according to a press release.

The restaurant also serves French fries, sweet potato fries and ice cream shakes. Local Mooyah owner Enzo Di Giovanni is also working on a second location in Doral, with plans for more than 10 in Miami-Dade.

Pies ‘n’ Thighs | Miami Beach 

Brooklyn-based Pies ‘n’ Thighs will open a pop-up at the Mondrian South Beach, confirmed. The Southern collaboration between Sarah Sanneh and Carolyn Bane will open on Monday and close Jan. 17.

The duo has worked at Magnolia Bakery, the Spotted Pig and Momofuku Milk Bar. It will be an addition to Momo Sushi Shack at the hotel. []
