Dollar General set to convert former rival’s South Florida stores

Discount retailer Dollar General will convert six Dollar Express stores in South Florida to its format by late fall.

Dollar General recently acquired 323 Dollar Express store across the country, including four in Miami-Dade County and two in Broward County.

Dollar General will convert Dollar Express stores in Broward at 1801 North Federal Highway in Hollywood and at 120 South Federal Highway in Dania.

The Dollar Express stores in Miami-Dade that Dollar General will convert include two in Miami at 3105 Northwest 62 Street and 401 Northeast 125 Street.

The other two Dollar Express stores in Miami-Dade that will adopt the Dollar General format are located at 19922 Northwest 2 Avenue in Miami Gardens and 16403 Southwest 312 Street in Homestead.

Dollar Express announced in April that it would close its stores in Broward and Miami-Dade after agreeing to sell them to Dollar General.

Crystal Ghassemi, a spokeswoman for Dollar General, told the Sun-Sentinel that South Florida and the rest of the state is “a great market” for the company. In the last five years, Dollar General has opened 12 stores in Miami-Dade, seven in Palm Beach County and three in Broward.
