UPDATED, Oct. 10, 3:37 p.m.: The Golden Beach oceanfront estate of a prominent South Florida couple who both died in 2015 sold for $19 million, marking a substantial discount off the original asking price.
387 Ocean Blvd LLC, led by Gregg Schlesinger, sold the six-bedroom, 11,600-square-foot mansion at 387 Ocean Boulevard to a Delaware LLC. Sheldon Schlesinger, a noted Fort Lauderdale attorney, and Barbara Schlesinger, a philanthropist and socialite, had owned the house. Gregg is one of the late couple’s sons.
The waterfront property, on nearly 1 acre of land with 150 feet of water frontage, hit the market in 2016 for $42.5 million with Jill Eber and Jill Hertzberg of Coldwell Banker. At the time, that price included an adjacent 21,000-square-foot lot with a two-story home and 75 feet of ocean frontage, which was not included in the most recent sale. Only the main estate returned to the market later that year for $29 million. It was later reduced and then taken off the MLS.
Eber and Hertzberg brokered the off-market deal to the Delaware company. The property sold for nearly 35 percent off the $29 million asking price.
The all-white, Mediterranean-style estate includes a gym, movie theater, cabana, oval-shaped pool, as well as a separate two-story guest house with its own kitchen, pool and beach. It was built in 1941.
The couple paid $865,000 for the property in 1985, records show. Sheldon Schlesinger, a top personal injury and medical malpractice attorney in the U.S., was part of a team of lawyers that fought the tobacco industry in the mid-1990s, according to the Sun Sentinel.
Last month, a company tied to the Dallas real estate firm RMC Property Holdings paid $10.75 million for the 27,900-square-foot lot at 365 Ocean Boulevard in Golden Beach.
Earlier this year, The Meyers Group’s Stuart Meyers paid nearly $10 million for a five-bedroom, 10,000-square-foot estate at 655 Ocean Boulevard in Golden Beach.
