The estate of late mattress mogul Harry Acker sold his oceanfront Highland Beach mansion for $21.2 million.

Records show Acker’s trust sold the house at 3719 South Ocean Boulevard to a trust named for the address, with attorney Mark R. Brown signing on behalf of the buyer.

Senada Adzem of Douglas Elliman had the listing, and Sarah Galperin of Compass brought the buyer.

Harry Acker’s father, Louis Acker, founded Bedding Discount Centers in Brooklyn in 1931. Under Harry Acker’s leadership, the firm rebranded as Sleepy’s and grew to be one of the largest mattress retailers in the nation. Mattress Firm bought the company for $780 million in 2015, according to published reports. Harry Acker died in 2023, according to published reports.

Acker bought the half-acre Highland Beach property for $3.2 million in 2014, records show. He built a 9,200-square-foot mansion in 2016. It spans four stories, with five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, two half-bathrooms, a saltwater pool and 100 feet of oceanfront, according to records and the listing. The mansion includes custom art pieces by sculptor Raymond Karpuska, Adzem confirmed.

The mansion listed for $28 million in June, Redfin shows. The price was reduced to $26.5 million in December, the listing shows. Adzem said the buyers are a couple who are going to keep the home as-is, but declined to identify them.

The closing comes on the heels of another pricey Highland Beach deal. Earlier this week, Skechers’ global advertising director Gary Patrick bought a waterfront townhouse for $18.8 million

In November, spec developer Pascal Nicolai sold an oceanfront mansion for $30 million

Adzem said luxury buyers like Highland Beach’s security, proximity to both Delray Beach and Boca Raton, and its waterfront’s higher elevation.

“High elevation definitely helps, not just with lifestyle, but also with insurance premiums,” she said.
