Assurant | Waterford Business District
Global insurance company Assurant will move its Miami-Dade County office to the Waterford Business District.
Atlanta-based Assurant took 78,000 square feet at 701 Waterford Way, where it will open in June, according to a spokesperson for the landlords and their broker. The 250-acre Waterford Business District, with 1.7 million square feet of office space, is in an unincorporated area of Miami-Dade County, south of Miami International Airport.
New York-based Nuveen Real Estate and Pimco Prime Real Estate, formerly Allianz Real Estate, own the Waterford Business District.
Juan Ruiz and Andres del Corral led the Blanca Commercial Real Estate team that represented the landlords. Brent Woodruff and Matthew Goodman were part of the CBRE team that represented the tenant.
Led by Keith Demmings, Assurant is now at a six-story campus at 11222 Quail Roost Drive in the South Miami Heights neighborhood, which is in an unincorporated area of the county. Assurant owns the property and has wanted to sell it. Late last year, Miami-Dade County was considering purchasing the campus, called Assurant Center, as part of a strategy to consolidate some of its government offices. In December, Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s administration backpedaled on the deal following objections the potential purchase price of $160 million was 23 percent above the property’s valuation.
