South Florida has become more of a magnet for soccer players following the launch of the Major League Soccer team Inter Miami, led by team owners David Beckham, billionaires Jorge and Jose Mas and others, and its star players, including Lionel Messi. The region will also host matches during the upcoming 2026 World Cup.

Earlier this year, Beckham and his wife, Victoria Beckham, sold their penthouse at One Thousand Museum in downtown Miami for $25 million. The couple owns a waterfront mansion on North Bay Road in Miami Beach.

Messi and his former teammate Sergio Busquets each purchased homes in Fort Lauderdale and the surrounding area. Busquets sold his Fort Lauderdale home to Florida Panthers forward Sam Reinhart for $9 million in January

The Mas brothers, Beckham and their partners are building Miami Freedom Park, a $1 billion mixed-use project near Miami International Airport that includes Inter Miami’s future stadium. The city of Miami is also planning to move its city hall to the project
