Centaur Holdings sold its Panther National golf course in Palm Beach Gardens for $191.2 million in one of South Florida’s largest golf course sales in recent years.
An affiliate of the Switzerland-based investment holding company sold the 392-acre property at 10391 Panther National Boulevard to an entity linked to Texas-based Ohana Real Estate Investors, the South Florida Business Journal reported. The sale equates to $488,000 per acre.
JPMorgan Chase Bank provided a $115 million mortgage. The deal includes the 18-hole championship course, a nine-hole par-three course and about 150 unsold home lots in the 218-unit Panther Community, where home prices are over $1 million.
Centaur bought the development site within the 4,800-acre Avenir community for $60 million in 2021, The Real Deal previously reported. The company finished the Jack Nicklaus- and Justin Thomas-designed 18-hole course, along with 68 homes, in 2023.
Centaur secured a $160 million loan the following year from West Palm Beach-based Sunrise Realty Trust to refinance existing debt and fund the project’s second phase, including additional homes and villas, a clubhouse, fitness center and golf training center.
Sunrise Realty Trust repaid its mortgage as part of the sale.
The 58,000-square-foot clubhouse is expected to open this fall. It will include a restaurant, wine bar, fitness center, event lawn, courtyard, locker rooms and a fashion and golf shop.
Golf communities have become popular residential options for affluent buyers, who are willing to pay a premium to live within them, according to Realtor.com. Buyers pay 25 percent to 30 percent more in golf communities than for similar homes without golf, Douglas Elliman’s Michael Merrill told the outlet.
In 2024, about 3,200 golf clubs in the country had a real estate component, representing nearly 23 percent of overall U.S. golf supply, according to the National Golf Foundation. Florida leads the country with more than 500 residential golf developments, including luxury communities such as The Bear’s Club, The Club at Admirals Cove and Old Palm Golf Club.
