About The Real Deal
The Real Deal has been repeatedly recognized for its prowess in real estate media, receiving the Society of American Business Editors and Writers’ 2013 award for general excellence. In 2016, TRD won a record 12 awards from the National Association of Real Estate Editors, including the gold for best residential trade magazine and a silver award for best commercial trade magazine.
Amir Korangy is the founder and publisher of The Real Deal. Prior to launching the real estate media company in 2003, he held several positions at Yahoo Inc. He attended Boston University and Emerson College for degrees in Journalism and Foreign Policy. Though he lives in Manhattan, he secretly loves Brooklyn.
Stuart Elliott is the editor-in-chief of The Real Deal, a role he has held since the magazine first started in 2003. He has worked at the New York Times, among other publications, and is a graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He lives in the West Village with his family
Jill NoonanSenior Content Director
Jill Gardiner Noonan is a senior content director at The Real Deal. Before joining the magazine in 2007, she was a senior political reporter at the New York Sun, covering Mayor Michael Bloomberg, City Hall politics and the 2007-2008 presidential primary candidates. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned a master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. She lives in Maplewood, N.J., with her husband and two kids.

Damian Ghigliotty is the managing issue editor of The Real Deal. Before joining the magazine in January 2016, he worked as a senior editor and reporter at Commercial Observer and a staff reporter at Dow Jones. He is a graduate of Pace University and the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism.
Heather GrossmanExecutive Editor For Growth & Strategy
Heather Grossmann joined The Real Deal as the editorial development director in 2014. Previously she was associate publisher at the local news site DNAinfo.com, which operates in both New York and Chicago. She started as a reporter then editor at DNAinfo, then took some time out of her five-year tenure there to launch MetroFocus, a news and culture website and TV show for WNET/Thirteen, NYC’s local PBS station. Prior to her journalism career, Heather worked extensively in business development and event production for media companies. She has a master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
Adam PincusResearch Director
Adam Pincus is the research director at The Real Deal. He launched the research division in 2014, and oversees its operations including the research website, general research and data sales. He began writing for the publication in 2007 and joined as a staff reporter in September 2008. Before that, he freelanced for Newsday and worked as a reporter for the TimesLedger in Queens. A graduate of Yale University, he worked in souvenir and trophy manufacturing for 12 years before turning to journalism.
James KleimannManaging Web Editor
James Kleimann is managing web editor of The Real Deal. Before joining The Real Deal, he worked as a reporter and editor at NJ Advance Media and Patch. He earned a B.S. in Journalism and Professional Writing at Champlain College in Burlington, VT. The New Jersey native lives in Windsor Terrace and hates Bruce Springsteen.
Yoav BarilanVP, Corporate Development
Yoav Barilan is the director of marketing operations at The Real Deal. He has been with the company since its inception in 2003. Barilan has helped grow the advertising department from a two man operation out of publisher Amir Korangy’s Brooklyn home to one of the most fierce and revered in New York City publishing, with more advertising contracts than any other regional publication. “Some credit our success to my military discipline, but the fact is that I just love what I do and I do it blindly,” he said. When asked about rumors of him being a Mossad assassin, Barilan said, “There is no factual proof of that. I have work to do.”
Ross FoxHead of Sales
Ross Fox is the head of sales at The Real Deal, which he joined as a salesperson in 2010. Responsible for TRD’s expansion into Florida years ago, Ross now manages the entire sales force. As head of sales, Ross has full authority on all things advertising in any and all TRD verticals. Rigorously working his way up from being a sales representative, Ross is directly involved with all products and events, while simultaneously maintaining a book of business. He is a graduate of St. John’s University and lives in Hudson Yards.
Adam MyersArea Sales Director, Tri-State
Adam Myers is the Area Sales Director – Tri-State at The Real Deal. His role is to manage the growth of TRD both in current and new markets. With over a decade of experience in sales, Adam works with the sales team in all offices to expand their pipeline and appeal to new endemics. He is a graduate of SUNY Albany and lives in Hell’s Kitchen. Prior to joining The Real Deal, Adam sold advertising on behalf of trade and athletic organizations.

ohn Harrison is the chief financial officer of The Real Deal. In 2005, he graduated from Lehigh University with bachelors degrees in Finance and Accounting, and worked in corporate finance at Johnson & Johnson for nearly a decade. John holds a MBA from Pace University and worked at online media start-up Some Spider Studios as head of finance, before joining The Real Deal in 2017. John lives in Ridgewood, New Jersey with his wife Heather and two sons, Liam and Jackson..

Danielle Balbi is a magazine editor at The Real Deal. Before joining the publication in April 2017, she worked as a news editor and reporter covering finance at Commercial Observer. She is a graduate of The New School, where she studied Political Theory. A New York native, Danielle currently resides in Brooklyn.

Hiten Samtani is The Real Deal’s editor at large. Samtani, who joined the team in December 2012, is a graduate of the University of Toronto and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. His work has appeared in the New York Times, WNYC and the Columbia Journalism Review. When deciding between real estate and another beat, he was asked: “Do you want to cover money and power, or do you want to write about librarians?”

Kerry Barger is the digital editor at The Real Deal, where she oversees video, social and web production. An Ithaca College graduate (Go Bombers!), she lives in Dobbs Ferry with her husband Brendan and a Shorkie named Shaq.
Heidi PatalanoSpecial Issues Editor
Heidi Patalano is The Real Deal’s special editions editor, managing quarterly print editions in Los Angeles and South Florida, in addition to special supplements on Westchester and Fairfield counties, New Jersey, Long Island and the Hamptons. Previous to TRD, she was the features editor at DNAinfo where she oversaw residential real estate coverage for New York City. Heidi graduated from Boston University’s College of Communication and lives in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

Alexi Friedman is national editor at The Real Deal. Previously, he was news editor at Metro New York, and before that, he worked as senior writer at Commercial Mortgage Alert. He also covered criminal justice and was on the business desk at The Star-Ledger. A native New Yorker, he lives on the Upper West Side.

Ina Cordle is the managing editor of the The Real Deal South Florida, overseeing the publication’s expanded coverage and staff. She previously spent 19 years as a business reporter at the Miami Herald. Her experience also includes nearly a decade in corporate lending at Southeast Bank. Ina holds an MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management in Glendale, Arizona, and a master’s degree in Mass Communications from Florida International University. She earned her bachelor’s degree in International Studies from the School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vermont..

John O’Brien is senior editor for The Real Deal in Chicago. He has been a journalist in Chicago for more than two decades, including stints at DNAinfo, the Sun-Times company and as managing editor of two daily newspapers. He lives on the South Side of the city with his three sons. Unlike James Kleimann, he loves Bruce Springsteen.

Alexei Barrionuevo is the managing editor for The Real Deal Los Angeles, since 2018. Alexei has worked as a real estate columnist, staff reporter and national and international correspondent for The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal, among other publications, and is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley. He lives in downtown Los Angeles.

E.B. Solomont is a senior reporter at The Real Deal. She joined the magazine in June 2014. Previously, she wrote for the St. Louis Business Journal, Jerusalem Post and New York Sun. A Boston native, E.B. graduated from Tufts University and earned a master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

Konrad Putzier is a reporter at The Real Deal. He joined the publication in April 2015 from Real Estate Weekly, where he previously covered the New York real estate market. A Germany native, Konrad graduated from Durham University in the U.K. and holds a masters degree in history from Yale University. His work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal Europe, Die Welt, Financial Times Deutschland, as well as online in The New Republic and the World Policy Journal.
Rich Bockmann is a reporter at The Real Deal. He joined the publication in 2014 after having worked at the TimesLedger Newspapers in Queens and The Times of Trenton, N.J. A New Jersey native and Rutgers University alumnus, Bockmann can glance across the Hudson at the Garden State from his place in Hell’s Kitchen whenever the urge strikes him.

Kathryn Brenzel is a reporter at The Real Deal. She joined the magazine in 2015. Previously, she reported on Hudson County for NJ.com and the Star-Ledger, and covered crime and courts for The Express-Times in Easton, PA. She earned her master’s degree from Columbia Graduate School of Journalism.
Natalie HobermanReporter, Los Angeles
Natalie Hoberman is a reporter at The Real Deal Los Angeles. She joined the magazine in August 2017. Previously, she wrote for the Los Angeles Business Journal. A Buenos Aires native, Natalie graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she studied Business Journalism and learned how to DJ. She now lives in West Hollywood.
David Jeans is a reporter for The Real Deal. He joined the publication in 2018 after freelancing for The Associated Press, The New York Times, The Marshall Project and ProPublica. An Australian native, he moved to New York for the Toni Stabile Investigative Journalism Fellowship at Columbia Journalism School, and worked previously as a journalist in Australia and Central America, reporting for Vice News, Daily Mail, News Corporation and Fairfax Media outlets.
Keith LarsenReporter, South Florida
Keith Larsen is a reporter at The Real Deal South Florida. He was previously the money reporter with the South Florida Business Journal where he covered banking, finance, fraud and economic development. Keith is a graduate of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill’s Graduate School of Media and Journalism. He now lives in Miami where he spends much of his free time watching Seinfeld and complaining about the humidity.
Dennis Lynch joined The Real Deal in March 2017 as a contributing reporter for its New York magazine and became national web reporter in January 2018. Previously he worked as a reporter for the Community News Group family of papers, including the Brooklyn Paper, Downtown Express, Villager, and Chelsea Now covering New York City politics, crime, and neighborhood issues. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Will Parker is a reporter at The Real Deal. Before joining the magazine, he worked as a copywriter and held a position teaching English in Madrid, Spain. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, where he studied writing, Spanish, and unrelenting humidity.
Eddie Small is a reporter at The Real Deal. He joined the publication in April 2017 after spending about three years covering The Bronx for DNAinfo. He is a graduate of Dickinson College and the Columbia School of Journalism, and his work has appeared in The Atlantic, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and The Onion. He lives in New York and quotes “The Simpsons” far too often.
Meenal Vamburkar is a reporter at The Real Deal. Before joining in 2018, Meenal wrote for Bloomberg and Money magazine, among other publications. She attended Boston University and New York University’s Business and Economic Reporting program. She lives in Astoria.
Alex Nitkin is a reporter for The Real Deal in Chicago. Previously, he covered citywide breaking news and then local issues on Chicago’s Far Northwest Side for DNAinfo. He grew up in Connecticut and graduated Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. He lives in Uptown but flees the city for extended camping trips every chance he gets.

She has been in a long-term relationship with Photoshop for over a decade and is, somehow, a morning person. Haru Coryne is a researcher covering Los Angeles, South Florida, and Chicago. He also works on TRD’s special issues in New Jersey, Westchester, and Long Island.
Paul DilakianDesign Director
Paul Dilakian is the design director of The Real Deal, overseeing editorial art, design and photography, and marketing design. Before joining TRD in 2016, he was art director for Observer and multimedia editor for ALM, where he won awards for graphic design and photo editing. He has also worked at Prada, Gensler, and MWW Public Relations. Paul studied design and illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology and communications at Ithaca College. A native Upper West Sider, Paul currently lives in Inwood.

Victoria Tuturice is the production manager for The Real Deal. She graduated from James Madison University in 2010 with a BFA in Graphic Design and later found her niche in production when she joined The Real Deal in October 2014. Victoria previously worked as a designer at Gammon Ragonesi Associates in NYC and Great Valley Publishing Company in the Philly Suburbs, where she was born and raised. She now lives in Brooklyn.
Danoman Konlan currently works as the Marketing Designer for The Real Deal. His responsibilities include working on internal marketing and sales projects, ranging from media kits, posters, web banners/gifs animations, some minor video editing and so much more. Danoman grew up here in the Big Apple, but was born in Ghana West Africa, in a small village called Nakpanduri.

Brooklyn born and raised, David comes to TRD with a 10 year background in finance, working as a market maker and senior sales trader for Royal Bank of Canada, right out of school. He transitioned into sales 7 years ago, making 100 cold calls per day, working for an online marketing company named Yodle. During his time, he helped manage, streamline and scale their entire sales team/process, which was eventually acquired by Web.com for over $300 Million. Die-hard Knicks fan, and everything 90s music!

Rob Stearns has worked on the sales team at The Real Deal since 2010. Born in Brooklyn, he has lived in Denver, Connecticut, Arkansas and Vermont and graduated from San Francisco State University and Sierra College, also in Northern California. He came to The Real Deal with a background in magazine sales, having worked for two years at the Brooklyn Daily Eagle. Working at The Real Deal has taught him much about sales and people, while also giving him a behind-the-scenes look at how real estate operates in the greatest city in the world.

Outside of the office, Michael is an avid reader, a die-hard hip hop fan, and is willing to wager any amount of money that he can finish the Sunday Times crossword faster than you.

Liam CroninNew Business Development – Real Estate Data
Liam Cronin is the new business development of real estate data for TRData. He oversees the sales and marketing of the data products, while shaping new products based on client requests. Liam’s knowledge of the database allows him to design creative solutions for each client. He began working at TRData in June of 2018. A graduate of Vanderbilt University, he has worked in high-yield bond research and as an office leasing agent in Manhattan.

Divya Rallabhandi joined The Real Deal as a human resource specialist in April 2018. Born and raised in India, Divya moved to the United States in 2012 and graduated with a master’s degree in Human Resources from Rutgers University. She has a bachelor’s degree in Finance and her first job was with JP Morgan Chase. Prior to joining The Real Deal, she worked for a tech consulting company in New Jersey for 4 years. Her previous internships in the media industry lead her to join the publication. Outside of work, Divya enjoys traveling and exploring new cultures and cuisines.

Nathalia Mesa is the circulation and subscriptions manager at The Real Deal. Born and raised in Colombia, Mesa moved to the United States in 2011. She received her associates degree in Colombia in Advertising and Consumer Behavior, and finished her bachelors in Marketing Communications at Dowling College in Long Island. Prior to The Real Deal, she worked as a marketing intern for NBTY’s Vitamin World Division.

She has previously held positions at The Birthright Israel Foundation, Horizon Media and Forrest Solutions Group. She graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with a BS in Childhood Education. Niccole loves sports, and is a die-hard NY Rangers fan.

Katie McCurdy is the editorial assistant at The Real Deal since December 2017. Before this, she worked at Grubhub as an operations associate, and prior to that, she was a student at SUNY Purchase, where she received a degree in Literature and hosted a radio show about all things movies. In her free time, she takes astrology classes, so tread lightly when mentioning your birthday.

Vahid lives in Los Angeles, where he dreams of driving a convertible through the sunset every day. In reality,though, he spends most of his free time rooting for his favorite soccer team, FC Barcelona.
