Royal Caribbean Cruises formed a coalition to fight David Beckham’s proposed Major League Soccer stadium at PortMiami.

The cruise line and numerous allies created the Miami Seaport Alliance to campaign against a 25,000-seat stadium on the southwest corner of the port, the Miami Herald reported. Miami Seaport bought a full-page ad in Monday’s Herald titled “Here We Go Again.”

A second cruise company is part of the alliance, but leader John Fox declined to disclose which one. Carnival and Norwegian Cruise Line told the Herald they are not involved.

“The Alliance wholeheartedly supports a soccer franchise in Miami and believes there are other sites that would benefit greatly from a stadium,” Miami Seaport said in the Herald ad. “However, PortMiami is not one of them, due to the risks a port stadium would pose to jobs, cruise and cargo operations, security and the port’s promising future.” [Miami Herald]Eric Kalis
