Piola heading to Pinecrest

Piola will open a pizzeria this fall at Suniland Shopping Center in Pinecrest, marking its third location in Miami-Dade County and sixth in South Florida.

The pizza shop will replace 100 Montaditos at the shopping center at 11421 South Dixie Highway, where it has signed a 10-year lease for 2,517 square feet, according to Terranova Corp.

Terranova’s commercial associate India Turkell represented the landlord in the deal. Terranova Chairman Stephen Bittel is managing member of the property.

Piola was founded in Treviso, Italy in 1986 by the Carniato brothers who decided to build a brick pizza oven in their parent’s restaurant. Since then, Piola has expanded to nearly a dozen countries, according to a press release.

In South Florida, Piola is located on Alton Road off Lincoln Road in Miami Beach, on Brickell Avenue in Miami, as well as in Hallandale Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Weston. In the United States, Piola also has locations in Washington, D.C., North Carolina and Texas. The company also operates in Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Italy and Turkey.

Other tenants at Suniland, which was originally built in 1955, include CVS Pharmacy, Smoothie King, Flanigan’s, Citibank, and Chicken Kitchen. Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ, which signed a lease in February, is expected to open by the end of the year, Terranova said. — Ina Cordle
