According to a study by the Global Wellness Institute, wellness real estate is now a $134 billion industry. And while eco-friendly homes have been in vogue for years, the wellness trend is finally reaching the kitchen as well.

According to a recent report from Zillow about which listing features can help homes sell for more, steam ovens topped the list at 34.1% above expected sales price. Josu Gaubeka, president of upscale kitchen authority La Cuisine Appliances, says “Ultra-luxury consumers into wellness and eating healthy are starting to demand unique high-end appliances to match their needs, from shock freezers and blast chillers to maintain freshness to replacing microwaves with combination steam ovens that help food retain more vitamins and minerals.”

As conscious consumers recognize that healthy eating consists not only of the food itself but also of the method in which it is prepared, steam ovens are becoming a staple in high-end homes and condos, including at Monad Terrace, 321 Water’s Edge and Aston Martin Residences, all of which feature the new Gaggenau combi-steam oven from La Cuisine Appliances. In addition to steaming, the oven can simmer, bake, cook, braise, blanche, broil, and reheat food, as well as extract juice and even make yogurt. A new sous-vide cooking mode, with accurate temperature regulation at one-degree intervals from 120°F to 200°F, allows food to be prepared in a healthy manner and ensures the food’s vitamins, minerals, consistency, and color remain unaltered.

“Developers we work with are seeing this new luxury consumer demand and are ensuring their high-end residences are providing the best options for wellness in the kitchen,” says Gaubeka.

SobelCo Owner and President Jeffrey Sobel and developer of 321 Water’s Edge in Fort Lauderdale, which features the steam oven, says “Wellness is the next level for sophisticated buyers like the ones we have at 321 Water’s Edge. Certain luxuries are becoming standard, but anything that can offer new health and wellness solutions is a differentiator in this market.”

Jay Phillip Parker, CEO of Douglas Elliman’s Florida Brokerage, whose development marketing division handles sales for Monad Terrace, says “Buyers have increasingly become more wellness focused and have specifically asked us what properties feature wellness amenities, so we’re excited to share unique elements like this steam oven at Monad Terrace that provides the highest-level offering in the space.”

“While the combi-steam oven is the new must-have, I also predict we’ll see more attention paid to the blast chillers and shock freezers, especially with waterfront properties and avid boating and fishing residents who want to protect their catch,” says Gaubeka. The advanced freezers protect the cellular structure of the food, so that when thawed, nothing is sacrificed or becomes liquid – it’s essentially like having the food back at its original fresh state.

La Cuisines Appliances carries a variety of brands and products for a wellness-focused kitchen, including Gaggenau, Miele, Bosch, Dacor, Viking, Smeg, Liebherr refrigeration, Thermador, Franke kitchen systems, Irinox blast chillers and shock freezers.
