New Freedom Tower design unveiled

The new design of the Freedom Tower has been unveiled. The new design includes cladding its 187-foot-high, bomb-resistant concrete base in a screen of glass prisms rather than metal panels in an effort to avoid a fortress-like appearance. The tower, with the new design, would still soar: Its rooftop parapet will sit 1,368 feet above the street — the same height as the north tower of the old World Trade Center. more [NYT]
