The U.S. Commerce Department reported yesterday that construction of new homes fell by 24.8 percent in 2007 compared to the prior year. That marks the second biggest annual decline recorded, beaten only by a 26-percent drop in 1980. In December, construction of new homes fell 14.2 percent, more than had been expected.
