Hotel occupancy up, cost per night rises

Hotel occupancy rates are climbing and the industry is creating new jobs in retail and city services. In May, the average cost per night in New York City climbed to $350 from $300 last year. About 2.05 million rooms were taken in May, slightly higher than last year’s number of 2 million. Occupancy climbed to 90 percent, a 1 percent increase from last year. But as the dollar starts to rebound against other currencies, some worry that the influx of foreigners may slow.
