With winds of up to 50 miles per hour in today’s forecast, the New York
City Department of Buildings will conduct spot inspections of
construction sites today to make sure equipment is properly secured.
Builders, contractors and property owners must tie down scaffolding,
cranes and any other materials that could come loose in the wind.
Safety violations on construction projects increased 47 percent this
year, with 133 accidents in 2008. There have been 19 deaths at
construction projects this year, including several in crane accidents.
