Throughout the five boroughs, 21 new hotels are scheduled to open next year. Meanwhile, prices are down at several hotels in the city, including the Milford Plaza, at 700 Eighth Avenue between 44th and 45th streets, and the Hotel Pennsylvania, at 401 Seventh Avenue at 33rd Street. Despite the decline in room rates, Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced Monday that tourism hit record levels this year. He said that the city’s hotel occupancy rate is 20 percentage points ahead of the national average.
