GFI Development wants to turn a former telecommunications office
building on Atlantic Avenue into housing, a supermarket and a bowling
alley. The office building, between Clermont and Vanderbilt avenues in Fort
Greene, would become retail and office space, and if the developer’s
rezoning proposal is approved, the current parking lot would
become a 350-unit apartment building. More than 20 percent of the units
would be considered affordable housing. GFI acquired the building a
year and a half ago. Community Board 2’s land use committee voted 13-0
in favor of the project when Andrew Zobler, CEO of GFI, presented
preliminary plans last week.
