Governor David Paterson, who has publicly expressed support for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey in its disagreement with Larry Silverstein over financing for his office towers at the World Trade Center site, announced yesterday that he will negotiate directly with Silverstein. The two met for three hours yesterday, and Paterson reportedly persuaded Silverstein to hold off on pursuing binding arbitration, which could take six to nine months. Paterson said he and Silverstein discussed various financing options, such as a private-public partnership. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver have both backed Silverstein in the dispute.
