Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez has inked a deal to buy a four-bedroom, full-floor spread at Extell Development’s Upper West Side condominium, the Rushmore. According to the Wall Street Journal, Rodriguez, who has been renting a $30,000-a-month condo at 15 Central Park West and has been spotted apartment and townhouse hunting all over town in recent months, will pay between $5.5 million and $6 million for his new digs. Given that a Rushmore apartment on a higher floor recently sold for more than that, the Journal suggested that it’s possible Rodriguez got a so-called “celebrity discount,” though he did pay more than the buyer of a similar apartment one year ago. Rodriguez “loved the building, the park and the water views, but we think that the clincher was the baseball field outside the front door,” Extell said in a statement, referring to the nearby fields it built as part of its Riverside South project. The Rushmore, at 80 Riverside Boulevard, is now 70 percent in contract, the developer said. The last time Rodriguez was a homeowner in New York was in 2009, when he sold his unit at Trump Park Avenue for $9.9 million after splitting from his wife, Cynthia. As recently as yesterday, the Post reported that A-Rod had recently checked out the Novogratz-designed 400 West Street townhouse with girlfriend Cameron Diaz and was considering renting the $18.95 million property.
