Working in both the notoriously inconsistent real estate sales and restaurant businesses are safe career bets compared to that of Prudential Douglas Elliman broker Rachel Martin. The New York Post reported that the four-year veteran of the firm is currently selling real estate while on duty in Afghanistan. The 33-year-old first joined the Navy in 2001 and after eight years of active duty became a Reserve in 2009. In December, she began a 330-day tour as an operations officer to the Defense Management Contract Agency.
Meanwhile, in June, Martin sold a $1.9 million three-bedroom apartment in The Trump Place, at 200 Riverside Boulevard, with colleage Lionel Piraino. (Her commission for the sale, the Post noted, was nearly double the $65,000 she earns in the Reserve). She is in constant contact with clients through Defense Department-approved cell phones and voice-over-Internet communication.
Martin does not appear to have an agent’s page on the Elliman website and maintains no listings on her Streeteasy.com profile. [Post]
