In his quest to find his latest New York City pad, Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez considered an old haunt. The third baseman recently checked out a rental at 15 Central Park West, where he once rented an apartment, sources told The Real Deal.
A-Rod, as he is known, looked at a two-bedroom spread on the 16th floor of the exclusive Zeckendorf Brothers-developed tower in recent weeks, several people said. (Rodriguez’s broker, Adam Modlin of the Modlin Group, declined to comment.)
Rodriguez has lived at 15 Central Park West before. He departed a $30,000 per month rental at the building in 2011—reportedly because it did not offer enough privacy—in favor of a 3,585-square-foot apartment at Extell Development’s the Rushmore at 80 Riverside Boulevard. The move didn’t stick; the Yankee flipped the unit for $8 million just seven months later, it was previously reported.
It was not clear where Rodriguez has been living since then, although his real estate moves are closely followed by sports fans and celebrity watchers, as well as chronicled by the press.
The 1,724-square-foot, 16th-floor apartment has been on the rental market for just one month, according to Streeteasy.com. Asking $19,000 per month, it features marble bathrooms, herringbone floors, crown moldings and views of Columbus Circle, the Time Warner Center and Lincoln Center. The unit was purchased by a Russian buyer for $4.89 million in 2008, public records show. It does not appear that Rodriguez has made any deal at the building.
Listing broker Susan Barkin declined to comment on A-Rod’s interest in the spread “for the moment.”
Perhaps the sportsman is seeking some comfort in familiarity. He is currently battling allegations that he used steroids and reportedly has accused the Yankees and Major League Baseball of conspiring to push him out of the game. He is also still recovering from a January surgery on his hip.
As previously reported, A-Rod has also been seen eyeing a $9 million apartment at 111 Central Park North.
