New York Methodist Hospital is making changes to the hospital’s plans to Expand The 506 6th Street location to a total of nearly 500,000 square feet.
The existing plan also calls for tearing down 16 buildings on 6th Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues, and community groups have expressed concerns about massive construction, an influx of additional hospital employees and the potential for greater traffic and ambulance noise.
The local community board, which snubbed the plans last month, was due for another vote Wednesday morning but will now delay until the hospital presents updated plans on Jan. 6.
The hospital has made around 20 changes to the original plan, based on community input over the past six months, hospital spokeswoman Lyn Hill told the New York Daily News. She did not go into specifics.
The city’s Board of Standards and Appeals will ultimately have the final say in whether Methodist can build the structure as it wants. [NYDN] — Julie Strickland
