Billy Joel’s former Excelsior co-op asks $1.5M
A two-bedroom co-op at the Excelsior owned by Billy Joel in the 1980s just hit the market for $1.5 million.
The 1,800-square-foot unit at 303 East 57th Street near Second Avenue features floor-to-ceiling windows, a newly renovated kitchen, mirrored walls and a wet bar. Joel — who shared the space with then-wife Christie Brinkley — later sold it to Alan Aufzein, a former New Jersey Nets partner. It sits on the 44th floor of the 48-story building.
“With all the amenities, like a pool, gym, 24-hour doorman, the separate driveway — it’s just waiting for the next budding rock star or master of the universe,” Halstead Property broker Elayne Reimer, who has the listing, told the New York Daily News.
In May, Joel sold his two-bedroom pad at 128 Central Park South for $11 million. Five months later, he relisted his 5,500-square-foot Sagaponack oceanfront property with the asking price boosted to $23.5 million, as previously reported. [NYDN] — Mark Maurer
