Starbucks coming to Bleecker Street Records spot
Coffee chain confirms opening planned for this summer
The longtime home of Bleecker Street Records, a thriving vinyl store that counted Robert Plant and David Bowie among its customers, will soon be a Starbucks.
The 1,500-square-foot space at 239 Bleecker Street, which hosted the record store for more than two decades, was forced out by rising rents in April 2013, which the landlord reportedly lifted to $27,000 per month. The shop has since relocated to 188 West 4th Street.
A spokesperson for the coffee chain, which currently boasts more than 280 locations in New York City, confirmed to Grub Street that the Bleecker Street spot will open this summer. [Grub Street] — Julie Strickland
